Los Angeles Lakers is the second NBA team with more NBA titles won, 14. The team with more titles won is Boston Celtics, but they won their last championship in 1986 and have suffered a big drought since.

The Lakers were originally from Minneapolis. Their first season -1947/49- they played in the National Basketball League (NBL) and the next year they jumped to the Basketball Association of America (BAA). They won both tournaments. For the 1949-50, the BAA and the NBL merged to give birth to the NBA.and that was the beginning of the first NBA dynasty with the Lakers winning four championships in five years (including the BAA title). Before the 1960-61 season the Lakers moved to Los Angeles where they have piled 9 NBA titles, one with Jerry West, Will Chamberlain and Gail Goodrich, 5 during the Magic Johnson "Showtime", and 3 in a row with the triangle Phil Jackson - Shaquille O'Neal - Kobe Bryant.

After the Los Angeles Lakers were beaten by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2003 Playoffs, all the hopes were renewed with the arrival of two big stars like Karl Malone and Gary Payton. But the Detroit Pistons were the better teams in the 2004 Finals and the Lakers roster was dismantled. Shaq went to Miami, Phil went home, Payton was sent to Boston and a lot of new players arrived, Lamar Odom the most outstanding.

Also Kobe Bryant signed a 7-year contract, so he will be the leader of this team for many years.
